Buying my first cello?
I know very little about cellos. I wanted to buy a cheap, inexpensive one, pretty much just to play around with. I play violin by ear, so I figured ‘how hard could it be?’ Right?
So I found this one:
http://cooldiscountinstruments.com/shop/Band-&-Orchestra-Cello/c125_126/p2406/1/2-Size-Cello-Laminated-Body–Rosewood-Fitted–Alloy-Tailpiece/product_info.html?osCsid=a1091cb2b21adf6b0e0dc279f342f750
and thought maybe I could give it a try.
What do you think? Could I do better for the price? I mean, I’m not looking for a great cello or anything, but y’know.. decent..
Also, what size will I need? I’m around 5 ft 2 in.
Links, and any additional information I need as a soon-to-be cellist would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.
Oh!, and 10 points to the most helpful answer!
you would probably want to get a 4/4 (full size) cello, but you should go and check out a couple of cheap cello’s at a music store that stocks cellos.
Are you planning to buy online?
because you will probably get a better instrument if you try it out and get the feeling for the exact one you want.
The cello in the picture look’s allright, but if you are planning to become professional cellist then it would be cheaper to buy a good cello when you start learning, then buying two cello’s.
the strings can also make a lot of difference,if you do buy that cello, and the strings make a tinny sharp/shrieky sound, you should buy a good set of cello strings, that can really make a difference to the sound you produce.
