Is USD $ 125/hr a reasonable amount to pay for a violin lesson?
My lessons are actually 45 min., So it's $ 94th I have had the same teacher for more than four years, but I've always paid $ 60 an hour. She says that that rate is very far below a true market price and is increasing it to $ 125 effective June. Also, she says that she wants two test my motivation for continuing as a student here. I know my practicing has tailed off recently, with sophomore year being a lot harder than last year, and she wants my progress two accelerate by spending more time practicing, but is this really necessary? Other information – I also happen to play the piano (yes I'm asian) and that's more of my main instrument. My piano teacher charges $ 60/hr, and the highest Piano installment I've heard of in the area (I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago) is the 80th I know of some of my friends Whose violin teachers charge $ 100/hr, but i really do not know if I should continue or find a new teacher. Please advise
My husband pays $ 125 an hour at the Doctoral level in New York City for lessons from a teacher from Manhattan School of Music. We have 35 years experience in teaching each, having degree and graduate degrees in music from fine conservatories, And our charge and Ms. HS students $ 60 an hour – we live 100 miles north of NYC. It appears that your teachers is REALLY raising rates here an enormous amount – I would investigate this further before continuing lessons with this teacher.
