violin amplifier

Is it possible to teach myself how to play the electric guitar?
I got an electric guitar for christmas. Along with a chord chart, instructional book, electric tuner, extra strings, picks, amplifier, etc. I was hoping I would be able to teach myself how to play. But it hasn’t really worked out. I’ve attempted to practice/start learning maybe 5 times since December but it’s very discouraging. I know how to read music and everything because I’ve been playing the violin for 5 years. But electric guitar seems so impossible. I don’t have money for lessons and no one I know has any experience to teach me. How can I learn by myself? I really need tips and advice. This whole guitar thing seems very complicated. Where do I start? How can I avoid getting discouraged? Thank you in advance!
Hey there, try www.justinguitar.com.
Brilliant website, completely free. The guy relies on donations but it is totally up to you if you donate or not. It is split into beginners, intermediates and then loads of style modules.
The videos are really helpful and start right from the basics and there is also other stuff like riff of the week, music theory, songs etc.
