tuning violin e string
How do you tune the other strings of a violin when your A is in tune?

I know you play them together, but based on the sound of your A string (when in tune), how do you tune the D and E? I know you play them together, but what should it sound like?

Like the previous poster said, you can hear when two strings are in tune by playing them together. However, it takes practice to know what exactly you are listening for. If you want to be sure that you are in tune, try getting a tuner. I would recommend the Korg CA-30. You can hear all pitches and play into it and see how close your string is to being in tune.
