what is the average cost of an electric violin?or the cheapest it could get?
i wanted to get an electric violin and was wondering what the average cost would be. anything higher than 800 i think is a little expensive but any help would be great!
Well, it depends on what you’re looking for. Zeta or Viper violins are about as high-end as you can get. These are usually a thousand, at the very least and NOT brand-new. Most of the time, you can find them for around 2-5 thousand dollars, and upwards if you get them custom made.
Yamaha actually makes a good quality electric violin for a good price. That is, I think, the best bang for your buck if you’re not looking for the super fancy MIDI capable and all the effects equipment. I’ve seen Yamahas for around 900-1200 dollars.
Fender also makes a basic, but pretty good, electric. I’m not sure how much those go for brand new, but I bought a gently used one off ebay for around 500 dollars. I’d reccommend them to someone just playing for fun, or a first-timer with the electric violins, as the instruments do take some getting used to.
I usually am 100% against buying an instrument online, but in the case of electric violins, I lighten up a little, especially if you’re buying from a reputable website. Be careful when you look on ebay, as you can find some good bargains, but it’s easy to talk up what you’re selling, and easy to hide nicks and scuffs in the pictures.
Also, look into some electric-acoustic violins. They have the same plug-in as an electric, allowing you to pump it through an amp or sound system, but there’s also a lot more tone and resonance than in an electric, where the body can be totally solid.
