Violin Chin Rest?
I am a beginner violinist and I bought a violin with a chin rest already on it. The problem is that when I post my chin on the chin rest it hurts my collarbone. I positioning my violin wrong or is this my neck is just too short because when I put my chin on the other side the violin since the chin rest, there is no pain. Is it okay to play the violin without a chin rest? (I would like it removed professionally or get a new one without it) Will it be harder to play?
Yes, you can play without chin rest. But most chin rests are adjustable, and for all you know it might be on backwards. If it is true, it should not be touching your collarbone. I'm assuming it is curved underneath – When you put the violin on your shoulder, more curved part should be towards the rear of your shoulder, if that makes any sense professionally. You probably do not need it removed unless it has been turned on or something. Most can be removed and easily adjusted to players.
